Things I like Thursday #7

First thing is first. Go look at the pictures in this blog post by Rae. There it is. The first thing I like today. That sounds like I have had a crumby day, but I've got to be fair. The first thing I really liked this morning was a nice hot shower. Aside from the shower these photos made me sit up straighter. They are of my home, where I was raised. I love the Cascades. They are what mountains should be. And mountains have magic. They make a person want to do more and be more and breathe deeper and know that all is well so long as the mountain is there to keep it that way. Mountains (and woods, and the great outdoors, but especially mountains) keep me grounded.

Next up: the satisfaction of filling my pantry with things I make myself. Last night I canned 7 quarts of homemade chicken stock. Making my second time ever using a pressure canner. It still kinda freaks me out in all honesty, like I'm going to blow something up. But the good news is that I didn't blow anything up and I have 7 quarts of yum to use whenever I want without using up freezer space. Why, yes, I am a superhero. Thanks for noticing.

And third today for a nice, well rounded, short list: Anticipation. I am so excited for Christmas I cannot even say. I have family coming into town, I have a brother getting married shortly afterwards, I have a kid who's getting old enough to maybe start to get a handle on what's going on and I am so stinkin' excited. I am itching to get a tree and well, trim it.

Ok, I lied. I have a fourth. The fourth thing I like today, and have been liking for a few days is that full feeling I get when I know I made the right decision. Not full, like I ate too much, but full in my chest, like my lungs are working right and my heart is happy. Like things are just as they should be. Like I feel when I'm on a mountain. Except that I'm not. I'm just where I should be.
